Bangalore Get First Electric Bus Launched
Bangalore has a reason to feel proud. The country's first electric bus has been launched, much to the delight of green crusaders.
The bus, which is air-conditioned has the capacity to seat around 41 passengers.
The bus weighs 18 tons and has a length of 12,267 mm, width of 2,550 mm and has a height of 3,486 mm.
The bus takes 5 hours to be charged normally and half that time for a fast charge.
The zero-emission Chinese-made BYD bus (K9D) is powered by four ferrous batteries, each
producing 540 volts of electricity.
The air-conditioned bus can run 250 km on a single charge. It can clock a maximum speed of 96
kmph.
The zero-emission air-conditioned BMTC bus, powered by ferrous batteries, is expected to eliminate pollution caused by regular fossil fuel-driven vehicles.
The bus will ply between Majestic and Kadugodi (Route no 335E) for the first three months, between 7 am and 7 pm. The fare will be similar to Volvo buses.
