Sony has unveiled Xperia Tablet Z2, a tablet that the company claims is the world's thinnest and lightest.

Sonyhas unveiled Xperia Tablet Z2, a tablet that the company claims is the world's thinnest and lightest. Measuring 6.4mm in thickness and weighing just 426gm, Sony's new tablet is both thinner and lighter that Apple's iPad Air.

Announced at the Mobile World Congressin Barcelona, the 10.1-inch Android tablet runs on 2.3GHz quad-core processor. The tablet packs 3GB of RAM a
nd 16GB of storage, which can be increased up to 64GB via microSD card.

The new tablet, like last year's Xperia Tablet Z, has a 1,200x1,920p Full HD screen which boasts Sony's Triluminos and new Live Colour LED technologies. The tablet, with Android 4.4, on board has an 8MP rear camera and 6,000mAh battery.

Just like its predecessor, Xperia Tablet Z2 is a waterproof tablet and can withstand 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes, according to the company.

The tablet will be available globally from March. It will compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) and Apple iPad Air. Samsung also rolled out professional grade tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show in January this year; however, they are yet to reach the market.

iPad Air's biggest selling feature was its thin and lightweight body; that claim to fame, however, has now been taken by Sony's new tablet.
